To quote from the article: “The present study contributes to the body of research related to men’s mental health by identifying health-related masculine values associated with lower depression and suicide risk among men with a history of childhood maltreatment. By utilising a strength-based approach and assessing values that are both salient to, and likely desirable for men, new gender-sensitized interventions and services may be identified. Given men’s low uptake of traditional mental health services, initiatives that proactively play to men’s health-related values are also indicated as a means to legitimizing men’s help-seeking and treatment uptake.”
